Here at The Plug Leads Guy, we offer a complete ignition solution. While the main business is custom built, high-performance ignition leads, we also offer aftermarket ignition coils, distributor caps and ignition amplifiers.
I started building leads back in 2009, when I wanted a set of leads for my '89 Toyota Conquest Twincam, so I have over 15 years of experience and have built leads for many different applications. The business was officially registered in March 2020, a week before COVID hit — since then it has just grown, with the extra attention gained from social media platforms.
I build leads for street cars, race cars (drag racing, rally, circuit, drift, stock cars and more), boats, RC cars, two aeroplanes, quad bikes, motorbikes — even non-automotive applications, like a flare and a generator.
The main brand I use is MSD, specifically the top-of-the-range MSD 8.5mm Super Conductor leads. These leads are extremely high quality and are the exact same leads used on NHRA Top Fuel dragsters that make in excess of 12,000hp!
The benefit of running high-performance, low-resistance leads is that the ignition system is optimised: the leads allow the most spark energy to be generated at the spark plug, as less of the spark energy is suppressed travelling through the leads. Better spark results in easier cold starts, better throttle response, better high-RPM performance — and a few guys have reported improved fuel economy on cruise.
